Halfway to the Pole: Traveling the 45th Parallel

Former Yankee research editor and writer Art Sordillo
relaxes on a ledge overlooking West Stewartstown,
New Hampshire along the 45th parallel.

Art Sordillo, Yankee's dauntless research editor, and Senior Editor Steve Muskie are the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby of Yankee. [In 1987] they logged 2,000 miles visiting six of the smallest towns in New England. They topped that [in 1988] with their trek along the 45th parallel. Sharing an office as well as a car, Art calls complementarity the key to their successful collaboration. "He showers in the morning, I shower at night. He gets up early, I sleep late. He has to test every bed in the motel before renting a room. I worry about the food. As I've often told him, Steve, we can always sleep in the car, but we can't cook on the cigarette lighter."
